Tropius - Mini Pokemon Plush

Description

For my Grass entry, I give you a somewhat unusual choice of Pokémon: Tropius! I'm very proud of this mini plush. Truthfully, I thought he'd be way too complicated to stitch at all, yet I did it! That was quite a boost to the self-esteem, I can tell you. =)

When I am choosing a Pokémon to stitch, I scroll through a big list of each Pokémon type, before shortlisting just a few possible candidates. Grass is my second favourite Pokémon type, so there were many that I was dying to sew once I'd whittled the list down. Despite having always liked Tropius, I still don't quite know why this particular Grass type caught my eye. I'd initially considered either stitching Bellossom or Cherrim. However, I figured that these two looked too 'floral' for my liking. Instead, I fancied sewing a more traditional looking, 'leafy' Grass type, with plenty of opportunities to work with one of my favourite colours, green! I eventually decided to at least try sewing Tropius to see how I fared. Cherrim was my second choice, in case things didn't work out.

To my (pleasant!) surprise, Tropius turned out to be a joy to stitch! It wasn't nearly as difficult as I'd anticipated. For starters, I absolutely HATE making plushies which require me to sew a head to a body. I can never seem to do this neatly. Luckily, making Tropius involved no such thing - his head, neck and body are all interconnected, so there were just two pieces of beige felt to cut and sew together. Once that was done, it was simply a matter of sewing the helmet, body panel, facial features, neck fruit, wings and hooves. I loved sewing the wings and body panel especially, as I feel they really brought the design to life, what with the little 'veins' I stitched in. They make him look more plant-like - very appropriate, given his typing!

To conclude, I'm glad I chose to sew a slightly unconventional Pokémon. I think it also shows that it's not only traditionally 'cutesy' Pokémon that I'm able to stitch, so it was good to prove that to myself, more than anyone else. I hope you guys like him as much as I do.

Tropius, by the way, was crafted from felt and is 10.5 cm tall. 'Til the next time, everybody! =)

This looks fantastic! The detail is great, especially considering the size!
